Computers are complex machines, that communicate very efficiently through sets of instructions. Machine instructions are represented in op-codes and operands. Similarly to college life, instructions are vital in performing well. On assignments it is very crucial to read instructions carefully and carry them out correctly so one receives a good grade. Computers have a fetch/execute cycle which enables them to carry out instructions. This system fetches an instruction, decodes it, finds the data needed, executes the operation and writes back to the computer. To increase the speed of the F/E cycle, computers are pipelined, to paralellize the fetch and execute cycle. If a computer has multiple pipelines, it is said to be superscalar. These pipelines are called "cores." My computer has an i3 dual core processor. This means I have two pipelines to help increase the speed of my computer. This is very beneficial when I am online, and trying to find information very quickly.
A computer is a bus system and in order to watch movies on youtube, or communicate on facebook the computer has to pass the binary numbers around.In order to send emails to my professors or to read necessary material for classes on moodle, information has to be passed through the bus to carry out these tasks. The information is in machine language, which the computer is able to understand and interpret. All of this amazing computer architecture helps students be successful here at Hope College.
